Helping You Feel More at Ease
Worrying, racing thoughts, nervousness, always expecting the worst, not being able to turn off your brain, tension in your body – we know how draining and frustrating anxiety can be. You might feel like anxiety is taking over your life, and the more you try to push it away, the bigger it gets. The more you try to run from it, the more it chases you. Perhaps you feel like the never-ending ruminating and worrying are distracting you from being able to be present and live your life the way you want to. You might feel like no matter what you do, you just can’t shake it!
The things you try to do to calm your anxiety are working in the short-term, but don’t seem to have any real lasting effects, and sometimes even begin to become problems within themselves! Learning and practicing new ways of responding to your anxiety can not only help bring your thoughts and emotions back to manageable levels, but spark a drastic transformation in how you think, feel, and act.
What specific things can you help me with?
As someone experiencing unhealthy anxiety, you may be feeling like:
- You are constantly experiencing threatening situations, and have a difficult time coping or tolerating them
- You just cannot stop the endless stream of anxious thoughts
- You know everything will be ok in your mind, but you just can’t seem to feel that way in your heart and in your gut
- The nervousness, fear, and worry have taken over your mind and body
- It is difficult to enjoy life when you are consumed with unwanted thoughts that make you question your own sanity
- Fatigued, because you can’t get any good sleep since all the anxiety kicks in as you are in bed staring at the ceiling
Even if you are feeling hopeless and defeated, Individualized Psychotherapy can help.
Is it even possible to feel less anxious than I do?
All of our therapists at North Star Counseling Services are expertly trained in treating anxiety. This is what we do. Anxiety can come in many forms. Sometimes it is experiencing a general sense of worry, nervousness, or fear – perhaps always being consumed with worst-case scenarios. Sometimes it is more intense in social situations or while performing a speech or presentation, and it seems almost impossible to feel comfortable in these environments.
Sometimes it takes form in not being able to control obsessive or intrusive thoughts, which may or may not be followed by mental or physical compulsions. Sometimes it can cause panic attacks (sometimes referred to as “anxiety attacks”) that are triggered by specific situations or seemingly come out of nowhere. Sometimes it relates to thinking about a past trauma or someone that hurt us, that we never really processed, forgave, or let go of. Other times it may take the form of a phobia, being extremely fearful of one or more specific things.
Our clinicians have dedicated their lives to helping people who experience problematic amounts of anxiety get to a place where they are free from this burden. We know what works and what doesn’t, and successfully help people overcome their anxiety everyday. Many of the things that you think are helping your anxiety can actually be making it much worse! While you may feel overwhelmed by your emotions, anxiety is in fact very treatable. By utilizing the most effective, scientifically researched psychotherapy techniques, many of our clients see significant improvement quicker than they expect. We know the agony that years of anxiety causes. Please know that there is hope, and help is available.
